them burgers are 'whoa' good

We went to this place called Father's Office last weekend when Caroline was in town. I've heard the rumors, and I am here to say they are true. One of the best burgers I've ever had. Smaller, juicy, on a french bread bun, some sort of blue cheese sauce and a table sized metal shopping cart filled with sweet potato fries that you dip in some heavenly sauce. We had a basket for 4 of us and it was perfect, and j & i shared a burger to keep costs low. We finished the night off with $1.25/scoop chocolate malted crunch thrifty ice cream (now rite aid) and a dance competition on rachel's tramp. Thank you Caroline. For always giving us an excuse to indulge, even on a budget. (photos courtesy of eat drink & be merry)

sigh

i spent this morning with zuri and her mom. 6 months old. absolutely gorgeous.

yeah, so paris and i talked

Paris came into Pottery Barn yesterday (I didn't shoot this photo). She wore a white super cute summer dress, silver flats and a cute woven hat to help shield her face from the media. Soft spoken, she bought quite a bit on lanterns, candles, shells, server ware, etc. for an upcoming party at her house. This brunette was with her and her sister was somewhere down the street. Yes I talked to her. Yes she was nice. Yes I forgot who she was and mentioned that certain things were on sale even though it clearly didn't matter to her. No we didn't get invited to the party. But it was still my first big celeb encounter!

noz-o-mi

happy birthday to my best friend noz (the hottie in the middle). This is one of my favorite photos of us. Isabel's birthday, no theme or dress code, and we decide to show up like this and rock out. That's Char on the right, the cousin of my husband. Who knew back then, that I would marry Jan after looking this hot only a few (many) years prior. Those guys at BYU didn't know what they had.

when you need to eat, walk one block

We live one block from a Hare Krishna, and noticed during the days, people were eating outside at the metal tables. Turns out there's a restaurant inside, and they are pretty well known for their grub. Farrah, Rachel, & Jackie (long lost sf friend) & I scoped it out. All you can eat for $7 includes a bomb salad bar, potatoe salad, wheat rolls, basmati rice with coconut or brown short grain, 2 different dahl type soups, steamed veggies, and this stew thing for over the rice that had tofu, green beans, some green stringy veggie with tiny seeds, and tomatoes. Trying to watch my sweet intake, I passed on the not all you can eat vegan cake but put a spoon of some brown sugar something w/nuts on my plate. (of course the nuts stayed put) We're definitely going again.

oh a camping we will go

don't we look all camped out? grimey, unshowered, like we just crawled out of a tent? we spent the weekend at san onofre beach park just north of san diego with a big group of borrowed friends (nozomi's). a lot of them had never been camping before, so although we were in tents, the supplies were pretty amazing. the weather was in the 90's, the food committee served carne asada, bbq burgers and breakfast burritos, and we played games and roasted mallows as long as we could stay awake. more photos to come..

a quick desk study

this is what's currently occupying my desk. sometimes i get caught up with paid photo projects and forget to document my everyday. these are with my little digital. i should take some more with the biggie. it's prettier once you click on it. jan's in austin tonight. hence photo #2. and i got paid cash for my shoot. hence photo #4. i'm going to attempt riding my bike to work this week so my money can go towards better things than parking and gas.

why my cousins are rad

I helped Rich & Christina with some wedding invites, and to say thanks, they looked up a local massage parlor and hooked me up with a 1 hr combo massage! I heart thoughtful people.

sale, sale

As the person who's 'in the know', PB is having their big summer sale right now. We keep marking things down everyday. Lots of blankets, velvet drapes, bedding, bright summer outdoor pillows... Our fall stuff is coming in the next few weeks so now is the time to go. These taper candles are down to $6.99 and would make a cute gift if taken apart and rewrapped in ribbon in pairs. Like this. Hurry and check it out before it's all picked over.

santa monica farmer's market

pretty colors & patterns

latest movie

This was a good documentary. It opened my eyes to the realities of hospitals. It allowed me to understand home births. It made me cover my eyes during the c-sections and cringe when the ladies moaned. Everyone mom has done this. I asked Jan again to be my seahorse, because males carry the babies. He always says yes. I always know it'll never happen, but I ask anyways. Hospital procedures frustrate me. The lack of options and how for the most part you have to say ok to whatever the doctor thinks is 'best' even if it's not. They treat it like a system. In & out. Platocin speeds up contractions, the epidural slows them down, more platocin to speed it back up. Meanwhile the baby's blood pressure and heart is going crazy, so you need to get it out. Oh hey, let's do a c-section and tear through muscles. Uggh. Maybe someday we can try a home birth. At some point I'll have 9 months to research and prepare for this. Because I'm not yet ready.

so it goes

j and i get into 'discussions' about how much i exercise because he knows the benefits will help me and i refuse to admit it, to him only of course. the last 2 weeks my 'how much' has been about 2 times, and my excuse for why i don't want to run with him is...anything i can think of. i already took a shower today! uh, don't we have plans? can you go by yourself while i sit here? then i get on a roll of 'fine, i'll do it!' and i do something extreme. tonight, i went on a bike ride. some people get annoyed and go a few blocks. maybe even a few miles. i went to the beach & back, googled my route, and went 11 miles! holy cow! that's determination. at different times in my life i've sought after exercise. i've even admitted to enjoying it. varsity tennis in hs & then college. church basketball. the strength you feel after lifting weights for a few weeks. don't get me wrong, i love seeing tiny bits of muscle. i love feeling stronger. i just don't like how much effort it takes me to get there. sometimes it's fun to run. checking out new neighborhoods and pretty houses. hearing the ocean and soaking in the sun. geting stress out and sleeping better. in costa rica we did floor exercises each night and i was the leader! it was fun! but alone, it's a battle of wills. getting up and putting my sports bra on. rolling my eyes at the tennis shoes that somehow never get the tread worn out. i get really inspired by reading self and shape magazines. wow, great bodies. ooo, new workouts. and then they sit on the shelf. i like yoga. i like hiking. i like walking. but those don't burn the late night snacks off. so what's a girl to do. i think life is just a constant balance of this. you love it, you do it, you hate it, you still do it. we all need to exercise. it keeps us healthy, keeps the weight from creeping, evens out that lemon bar i just ate. was that outloud? j's good at exercise. he likes it & feels good after. he really pushes himself because he loves the feeling when he beats his goal. maybe after a few more years of marriage a little bit of him will creep over and i'll actually ask him to go running. maybe. just not today.

lime, lime, lime

{cubed lime angelfood cake topped with sliced strawberries, lime curd, and cool whip}
i love all things citrus. lemon meringue pie. lemon & lime bars, lime meltaways, lime on fish tacos, you name it. we were invited to n&t's house saturday night for a bbq. i was in charge of dessert and found a new recipe on tastespotting. the curd failed in looks because i left my kitchenaid in indiana, and i don't have a hand mixer yet so the butter & sugar didn't cream, but it was still delicious. If all you did was make the angelfood cake, your day would be amazing. {i may have cheated again with this recipe. i made cake from a box. Add 1 c. water. 1/4 c. fresh lime juice and one lime's zest. the rest was from scratch though, saving me from using 10 egg whites}
