recycling for babies

once j leaves for school again, i'm having a sewing night at my house for us mom's with newborns coming to make some of these. back in san francisco, we would make guy's tshirts smaller to fit us, now we can make them even smaller for our babies! sleepers are expensive but necessary, why not make them stylish - for free? what a great way to upcycle our husbands shirts that they won't let go of, or even some of ours from high school. find the tutorials here, image seen on ohdeedoh.

fabric hunting

i'm helping a friend make some coordinating duvet covers for her girl's room, so we're heading to the fabric district in la tomorrow morning for a couple hours. if you've never been to this area of town, it's fantastic, but like most big cities, you really have to hunt to find what you want. not everything is $1/yard (but this store really does exist on the corner.) stores like michael levine have higher end fabrics, but overall it's a great place to find a huge selection within a 2 blocks. these are the photos i found her for inspiration via ohdeedoh - i'll post the final product when we're done.

pretty with ribbons

i wish i had the talent to sew clothes. right now i'm just really good at straight lines. i was browsing this blog and came across a dress that the girl just you know, put together. so cute! one of these days i'm finally going to take a sewing class.

sock animals

I made some sock animals for the twins from the book Sock and Glove. A sheep for Azalea & a zebra for Clive. They were supposed to be done before they came home...then when they came home..and then I finally just finished them up when we went to meet them! My favorite part about the zebra is that because of the way I used the sock, he's always smiling. Well, that and the rad mohwak. I think they like them! thanks H for the photos.
